Fleur De OH CRAP updated 2/3/10 |
|
Shane, Bird, Spencer, Adam and I went out to ski some powder yesterday and found it...for a couple hundred vertical feet. Our goal was to ski the Fleur De Lei up at Stevens Pass. This aspect has always held snow in it's North by Northwest face but not yesterday. It takes about an hour to reach the top once you have your skins on. We chose to ski "should a skied" which is a more true north aspect and it showed with 6" of condensed powder.
We put our skins back on for the ascent back to the top of the the Fleur De Lei in anticipation of a high speed 1500 vertical foot powder run. We drop in the top and find it to be a little skied out but still soft. This section is typically variable so we were not worried. We drop into the main chute and find the it tattered with debris and a breakable crust. There was almost zero salvageable skiing except a little along the skiers left wall.
The skiing is good right now and I do not know how to explain this shit we ran into. The same aspect in the Icicle is skiing perfect right now.
cheers,
