Rock climbing in Leavenworth offers a wide spectrum of challenges, from
short fierce boulder problems to long multi-pitch traditional routes.
The granite slabs, domes and towers of Tumwater and Icicle Canyons host
over 1000 routes as documented in the current guidebook. These scenic
and inviting venues have been climbed on for over 60 years and now
offer newer developed sport climbs as well as friction slabs, knobby
faces, burly overhangs and all variety of cracks.
Bouldering is gaining
popularity with many new areas being developed and a recent bouldering
guidebook is available. Peshastin Pinnacles State Park is a cluster of
eclectic sandstone towers located 15 minutes from the village. Other
cragging destinations are within an hour or two of town and the alpine
climbing of the nearby Stuart Range is a well-known and popular
destination.
